Layer: Pavement Marking (ID: 15)

Name: Pavement Marking

Display Field: CW_ASSETID

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPoint

Description: This dataset represents the locations and attributes of pavement marking assets maintained by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (DPW), Operational Services Division (OSD). Pavement markings include surface-applied roadway features such as symbols, legends, stop bars, crosswalks, text markings, and other traffic control devices that convey regulatory, warning, or guidance information to roadway users. Each asset record represents a single marking type, defined by a standardized marking code (MARKCODE), and may include a quantity of that marking within the defined asset extent. For example, an asset may represent multiple instances of the same marking type (e.g., multiple stop bars or symbols) grouped within a single record.Marking locations are defined using linear referencing along roadway segments, incorporating street names, cross streets, and directional distance measurements to establish the spatial extent of each asset.Attributes are structured to align with DPW asset management standards and include references to Caltrans Standard Plans, MUTCD classifications, and material and reflectivity properties. The dataset supports asset inventory tracking, maintenance planning, and integration with the County’s Asset Management System (Trimble Unity Maintain / Cityworks).Field Definitions / Attribute Overview:This dataset contains key attribute fields describing each pavement marking asset. Note that values may be missing as this is an ongoing effort to reconcile and input our asset data. Notable/unique fields for Markings include:CW_ASSETID – Unique asset identifier assigned within the Cityworks / Trimble Unity Maintain system.STATUS – Operational status of the pavement marking asset (e.g., Active, Inactive, Proposed).MARKCODE – Standardized DPW marking code identifying the specific type of pavement marking.DESCRIPTION – General description of the marking asset.STREET – Name of the roadway where the marking is located.LR1 / LR2 – Linear referencing identifiers describing the relative placement of the marking along the roadway.CROSSING – Indicates whether the marking is associated with a crossing feature (e.g., crosswalk).DIST_FT – Distance measurement (in feet) used to define the location or extent of the marking.MARK_QTY – Number of individual markings of the same type within the asset.MKG_SQ_FT – Total area of the marking(s) in square feet.MARK_CATEGORY – High-level classification of the marking (e.g., regulatory, warning, guidance).MARK_TYPE – Specific type grouping of the marking.MARK_LABEL – Text label associated with the marking (if applicable).MARK_SYMBOL – Symbol designation for the marking (if applicable).CT_PLAN – Reference to the applicable Caltrans Standard Plan.CT_DETAIL – Specific Caltrans detail associated with the marking.MUTCD_REF – Reference to the applicable MUTCD standard or code.MARK_COLOR – Color of the pavement marking (e.g., white, yellow).MARK_MATERIAL – Material used for the marking (e.g., paint, thermoplastic).RRFLTY – Numeric retroreflectivity score representing the amount of light reflected from the marking or striping, used to assess its nighttime visibility and overall condition.MLOC_TYPE – Type of location where the marking is applied (e.g., roadway, intersection).MLANE_USE – Lane use designation associated with the marking (e.g., turn lane, bike lane).ORIG_INST_DATE – Original installation date of the marking. LAST_MAINT_DATE – Most recent maintenance or reapplication date.Last updated or update frequency: 2026Loaded May 2026 per Ticket #259688
